Freedom Day, as they call it is upon us and businesses are starting to ramp up welcoming their staff back to the office. Or are they? Many have decided to delay welcoming back staff until September, maybe to allow for them to get through the tricky summer holidays and child care.
Those that had to retreat would have adapted their homes to an extent to accommodate some form of working environment but equally, those not graced with space may find themselves working from an ironing board.
Many businesses will have embraced this new world with massively reduced office overheads. But is having the workforce fragmented good for business? There are many tools out there that can help overcome some of these issues.
The new world we live in
The adoption of WFH will allow businesses to recruit from a bigger pool of talent. No longer are they restricted to the locality of a commute to the workplace.
For the employee, well who enjoyed the commute anyway? Mentally this lockdown has been very challenging for us all. On the flip side of this, having some extra hours of sleep does us a world of good. Employee surveys showed that 9/10 wanted to continue working from home, which prompted a better quality of work/life balance.
How technology has made this possible?
Had this been 10 years ago, the pandemic would have been much more painful scenario. The introduction of Cloud services, Office 365 and Google Workspace made the WFH transition seamless. Many of our clients were able to close their laptops and leave the office, sometimes with very little notice.
